Re: The Film and Television Industry in Nashville

The impact of the film and television industry is underappreciated in Nashville, and I intend to change that. We have a great opportunity to do more as a city to support film and TV, which is such a vital part of Nashville, and help bring more projects here. We are Music City, after all, and the entertainment industry provides the beat of our economy.

My commitment to boost economic development in Nashville certainly includes the film and TV industry. The entertainment sector of our economy represents so much potential for Nashville as a city, and I want to see Nashville develop it. Every project shot in Nashville generates dollars in the community — in hotels, in restaurants, in retail and more importantly, for local industry workers who staff these projects. I want more projects here.

FilmNashville and its hundreds of professional members have worked hard to build the economic and creative infrastructures of the Nashville motion picture industry. The city should support their efforts, and I will make the Mayor’s office a partner in building that industry here.

My door will be open to the film and TV community and every business community in Nashville or interested in coming to Nashville. As Mayor, I would sit down with film and TV industry leaders to listen to their needs and explore ideas for growing the industry. We have lost some key players in the Nashville film and TV industry in the past few years. We need to reverse that trend.

The city can do a better job in this arena. I want to make Nashville an attractive location for the film and TV industry, which will grow their business and provide more jobs for people here. My commitment to the film and TV industry extends to the entire business community. I intend to make it easier to do business with Metro. I intend to maintain an environment that makes businesses want to choose Nashville as their headquarters.
