Fusion 10 and The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation (TMPCF) announce a Call to Filmmakers. We are seeking local filmmakers for an Independent Film Competition at the Cannery Ballroom and Mercy Lounge, Saturday, April 10th, 2010.

Are you interested in having your work viewed by an audience of 1200+? Here’s your chance to show Nashville what you’re made of and benefit a great cause at the same time. The winner of Fusion 10’s Independent Film Competition will be featured in a press release to the mass media and will receive a spotlight on nashvillefusion.com with a link to your website for one year! What is Fusion? FASHION. MUSIC. ART. FILM. Fusion is the nation’s largest young adult cancer awareness event and, having formed a reputation in the Nashville community as a SOLD OUT affair, Fusion 10 is continuing in its efforts to use the arts as a platform to give cancer survivors a voice. This year’s event will feature over 100 visual, fashion, film, and musical artists. With live performances by renowned Nashville musicians, the spring collection debut of some of Nashville’s finest fashion designers, a striking art show from local Nashville artists and an independent film festival, Fusion 10 is sure to delight the senses.

Film Show: In keeping with the Fusion theme, we are looking for a wide variety of films from commercial to abstract, comedy to film noir, etc. All films submitted must be appropriate for a public environment and meet the standards maintained by the committee. Material containing nudity, profanity, illegal activities, violence or negative depictions of social, ethnic, or political groups or individuals will not be admitted to the show.

FILM FAQ’s

1. What is the grand prize?  The grand-prize winner of the Fusion 2010 Independent Film Competition will receive the following: a) VIP ticket to the Nashville Film Festival and your film will be available for viewing on the Fusion website for one year with a bio and link to your website. b) A press release featuring the name of your film and contact information will be sent out to all of our Fusion press associates. c) Winner will be playing at the Bellcourt Theater at the 48 HFP and Kamera Sutra.

2. Who are the judges for the Fusion Independent Film Competition? Judges include local film critics, Film Nashville Representatives, and local film professors.

3. When is the submission deadline? All films must be submitted and the application fee paid for by March 20th in order to participate in the Fusion 2010 Independent Film Competition. You will need to submit a copy of your film [Data DVD format] with your application.

4. When will the winner be announced? The winner will be announced at Fusion 2010 prior to the final band taking stage.

5. Do I get a free ticket? Fusion is a sold out event and unfortunately we cannot give away any complementary tickets. As a participating filmmaker, your ticket is included in your entry fee, but any friends and family members will need to purchase tickets ahead of time to guarantee entry. Tickets are available at www.nashvillefusion.com.

6. What is the entry fee and what does it include? The entry fee for Fusion 2010’s Independent Film Competition is $15 and that includes: venue rental, exposure to show your work to over 1000 Nashville-area young professionals and the chance to win our Grande Prize. Checks can be made out to The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation.

Beneficiary—Young Adult Cancer Survivors Retreat: All proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will benefit The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation and the Young Adult Cancer Survivor Retreats. Cancer survivors, aged 18-35, will be treated to a weekend free-of-charge with activities revolving around self-esteem, leadership, recreational programming, and life-skills workshops. Because young adults with cancer are a smaller demographic, programming and support are not always available. This retreat offers a weekend of camaraderie among young adults who are otherwise, often isolated.

About the Foundation
The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity committed to funding programs that provide the greatest benefit to cancer patients and their families by supporting new programs in cancer research, education, and patient and family services. All of their efforts are in memory of Sarah Cannon, a cancer patient herself, who created the beloved character, “Minnie Pearl.” The Foundation’s Patient Resource Center provides free counseling from oncology social workers, a library with the latest information on cancer and cancer-related issues, community outreach programs to provide cancer education, computers with book-marked cancer websites, and meeting space for cancer and other health-related groups. All of these services are free to patients regardless of geographic area, treatment facility, or type of cancer.
