Knoxville Films to produce First Annual Knoxville 24 Hour Film Festival
Competition Begins Friday, August 20 at 7pm
Screenings Thursday, August 26 at The Bijou Theater
The Tennessee filmmaking community will be hitting the streets this summer for Knoxville’s first ever 24 Hour Film Festival. In the past, up to 30 teams of filmmakers have competed in the Marble City 10 Hour Film Festival. This year it’s a brand new festival with a full 24 hours for teams to write, shoot, and edit a 4-minute film.
Knoxville Films has competed regularly in all of the East Tennessee film competitions so they’re no strangers to film festivals and a natural fit to produce the competition. The Knoxville 24 Hour Film Festival will award prizes in ten categories in addition to five student film awards. “There are more chances to win incredible awards this year than ever,” according to festival organizer, Michael Samstag. “By more than doubling the previous amount of time teams had to make their film, we’re looking forward to seeing the level of production go through the roof!”
Teams interested in competing will be able to pre-register for the festival on July 21 at www.KnoxvilleFilms.com. The competition will kick off at 7pm on Friday, August 20th at Market Square, where teams will be given three crucial ingredients that must be incorporated into the film to prevent teams from pre-producing content. The following Saturday afternoon the festival will begin accepting the finished submissions at 2pm at Latitude 35 on Market Square. Submissions will be cut off promptly at 7pm, and films submitted after 7pm will not be considered for judging nor for screening, but will be included on the festival website.
Knoxville Films was formed in 2006 in order to promote the arts in East Tennessee. The organization is made up of filmmakers, painters, sculptors, musicians, photographers and actors whose aim is to spotlight the creative hotbed of the East Tennessee region.
