To be honored at upcoming Film-Television Town Meeting December 15..
This year’s Nashy Award, presented to one person annually for Outstanding Contributions to the Growth of the Nashville Filmmaking Community, is being presented to..
Glen Trew, founder and CEO of Trew Audio. For over three decades Glen has helped build the local community by providing audio engineering and location sound mixing for film and television production including feature films, TV series, commercials, music videos, documentaries and live television — and that includes supporting many aspiring filmmakers who needed a break at critical times. He is one of the local industry pioneers upon whose shoulders many in our community have started their careers and filmmaking aspirations.
A Brief History of Trew by Stephen Hawking [not]:
Glen was born in Nashville, 1954. Played French Horn in Nashville Youth Orchestra. Graduated from MTSU – Recording Program. Started as sound mixer at Channel 5-TV. Early sound mixing jobs — Hee Haw, Candid Camera. Started Trew Audio Services in around 1980. Got his pilot’s license in early 1980s. Worked on hundreds of commercials and music videos. Bought his own plane – Beachcraft Baron (used to fly to sound jobs).
Expanded into sales and rentals around 1992. Rented space at DR&A on Willow Street.
Sold his plane. Trew Audio, Inc. formed in 1994. Moved to Metro Center in 1995 — near Nagra and AC, Inc. Founded Remote Audio Products 1997 – design and manufacturer of specialty audio products. Moved into larger space in Metro Center in December 2004. He expanded Trew Audio into Toronto and Vancouver. He was one of the initial members of the Nashville Film/Video Association, and a board member of the Nashville Film Festival. He started collecting motorcycles in 2005 [oh boy..], and now owns 7 or 8 at last count. Needed affection from local community so got into serious motorcycle accident – May 2007.
His feature film & TV work includes: Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (Disney feature); Elvis, The Young Years (ABC Series); The Burning Season (HBO); Attica, Against the Wall (HBO – Nominated for Emmy); Andersonville (HBO); Christy (CBS Series ); Jersey Girl (Feature); Hannah Montana (Feature)..
Speaking on behalf of and/or giving a hard time to Glen will be:
Armanda Costanza – The very first recipient of the Nashy Award. Armanda started A.C. Inc, one of the most businesses that has had important impact on the growth of the Nashville filmmaking community. She has worked with Glen many times on set.
Terry Hillman – Terry and Glen go all the way back to Channel 5 together in the early 80s. Terry also worked at Trew Audio.
Michael Figlio - Michael more or less got his start working for Glen in the early days. They have traveled, worked and flown together. Not sure about motorcycle forays.
Steve Aaron - Steve is a long time client of Trew Audio and has a great many film credits. He has become a friend over the years and has ridden with Glen on several long motorcycle trips.
Master of Ceremonies for the Nashy — Tom Neff, Founder of the Documentary Channel and award-winning documentary filmmaker.
And Ken Goddard, Past President FilmNashville, EVP of Green Bank — Nashy Award sponsor
