48 Hour Films 2009

Below are the 2009 Nashville 48 Hour Film Awards –

A special note about the awards:

The 48 Hour Film Project is an international competition in 70 cities around the world. The Best Film Award enables that winning team to compete with the winning films from all the other cities and countries in the year-long competition. The Best Film is the one film eligible for cash and other prizes.

The local 48 HFP awards vary widely on a city-by-city basis, largely at the discretion of each city, because each local film community in the international 48 HFP is different. Over the seven years that FilmNashville has produced the Nashville 48 HFP, about 270 films have been generated by local professionals and student filmmakers engaged in the process of making indie films. For the last six years, we in Nashville have created approximately four hundred award certificates, and these have always been meant to champion all the filmmakers who have gathered equipment and crew, held auditions, did all the paperwork, then sweated and toiled to produce the best film possible. We were actually the first 48 HFP city to hand out physical certificates. Most of the awards presented in Nashville are not offered at all in other 48 HFP cities, and this includes the best in each genre, such as Best Comedy, Best Sci Fi and so on. These and many other award categories, as well as First Runners Up and Honorable Mentions are determined by FilmNashville as the producer of the local 48 HFP. All local awards are presented by the judges to encourage filmmakers to make more films, by acknowledging what they have done really well in the process. As well as the one prize-winning Best Film that goes on to compete internationally, it is important to champion the merits of the 49 other films in the Nashville 48 HFP Project. Ultimately, all of this is more important than an annual contest; it’s about developing as a filmmaking community. All films made in the process can have a life well beyond the Nashville 48 Hour Film Project. Many of them have gone on to play at the Nashville Film Festival and other fests, including the Cannes Film Festival. Without further ado, here are the 2009 winners:
